Pastor John Wyness
For the past 24 years Ive had the joy of doing something I love: serving Jesus Christ as a pastor. My wife Sue and I are so pleased to serve here at Abbotsford Baptist Church. As soon as we arrived here in April 2014, we knew we had found a home.
I was born in Vancouver and raised in North Burnaby; Sue was born in Vancouver and has lived in Vancouver, on Texada Island, and in Surrey. Together weve lived in Burnaby, Surrey, Nanaimo, Langley and in August this year our home will be here in Abbotsford.
This is a second career for me! The first part of my adult life was a career in business, in automotive and industrial parts distribution, sales and management. I became a follower of Jesus as an adult, and after that returned for a Masters degree in pastoral ministry at ACTS Seminaries at Trinity Western University.
Sue is an Orton-Gillingham practitioner-trainer and works with children and sometimes adults with specific reading differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), and also trains new practitioners. She is passionate about her career!
Shes also passionate about our kids and grandkids! We have two children and six grandchildren.
We love camping and love spending time with our children and their families. We each have other interests, too: for Sue its reading great books; for me, its music, leading worship in our church and singing in a mens choir in Vancouver. Sue loves teaching kids, and is involved in childrens education here at Abby Baptist.
Theres one other thing we are both passionate about: Jesus. We love Jesus and want others to know his love too. Thats what were about, and thats what Abbotsford Baptist is about. We are super-excited about what God has begun here at Abbotsford Baptist. It's a privilege to be along for the ride and to see Him work.
